Hi all

Need a server techie to:

  • Travel to Sea Point
  • Install a new power supply into a HP ProLiant DL380 G5 rack server (supplied by me)
  • Write a report for insurance purposes confirming the previous PSU (and UPS) died due to power surge
  • Possibly install a APC SC1500I UPS to replace the existing one (supplied by me)

There will be a good amount of Bob in it for you/what ever your reasonable charge is.

PM for details. ;)

PP.

I understand it to be easy, but I have no experience with servers. I would rather leave R100,000s worth of equipment in experienced hands.

Anyway, sorted. :)

I doubt a techie will be able to distinguish between power surge and say component failure, so not sure how he/she is supposed to confirm it.

I'm sure you can find someone willing to "confirm" it anyway though. ;)

I'll leave that up to them. Even if only one piece of equipment conked out, it would still be worthwhile. Replacement parts are over R7k.

Strange that the UPS and the PSU died? Perhaps it was the UPS which affected the PSU? I can't understand how the PSU would affect the UPS. Speculating. :D

The insurance companies don't want proof. You say it was a power surge and they will believe :D

I worked for glenrand for many years and all they want is a letter claiming this and that happened. Then they pay out. They never even collected the damaged goods.

Make sure you keep the dead parts. That way when there is trouble you can tell *them* to investigate & they can deal with getting it credibly "confirmed". killa is right though...it'll be fine....I had it confused with Eskom. If you try to claim from them for a surge then its a major uphill battle.

PSU & UPS can affect/kill each other either direction.
