Hey Folks.

So the wife drives a 2018 Honda HRV 1.5 comfort CVT. Mileage is currently on 93k and is due for its annual service - 105k interval.

The last service done at Honda Weltevreden, was the major at R8400. The 105k is not a major, but they say it'll cost over R9k. When I asked why the normal service would cost more than a major, I was told that they need to change the spark plugs, at ~R1200 each.

We also need to do the brakes, which is not included in the above cost, but they say about another 6k.

(The only reason we are looking at the stealership is to keep the FFSH for future resale value)

So, I have a couple questions Id like input on please:

1. Can I skip the sparkplug change (or will it be detrimental to coil pack?) I know the plugs are advwrtised to be good for 100k kms. R1200 seems excessive for a spark plug, too. Skipping the plugs reduces cost significantly. I can also buy the plugs at midas (seem about half the price for NGK iridiums from midas for example) and replace myself.

2. Are there other, reputable workshops where we could get the brakes done at a more reasonable cost than the dealership? I recently was in Durban visiting family and got their vehicle brakes done at AuotBrake in Pinetown, so ideally looking for something similar here.

3. At what point does the cost of dealership service outweigh the benefit of RMi workshop services in relation to resale value benefit? Honda are running a special on oil filter and oil change for 2k. Im thinking doing that l, getting the 'stamp', changing plugs myself and then getting brakes done somewhere else if more affordable?

FWIW: I used to tinker with the old school hondas a lifetime ago so I could probably do the brakes myself if I absolutely needed to (need to dust off the tools) but would prefer the wife not nag, so rather get it done at a workshop - will be faster than me shaking off years of mental rust too. Oil change I can absolutely do myself, including filters, plugs etc, but we want to keep the 'stamp' for FFSH. Brakes would def be more of a shlep and bleeding would be a PiA with the wife pumping the pedal too.

Dealership is taking the piss.

Get it done somewhere else by a professional. The smaller services you can always do yourself and doesn't take long and its not complicated.

Honestly a dealership service adds little to your resale value. The car is already 8 years old.
A service history at any RMI mechanic will be just as good. People just want a tracking of service history and going past 5 years it happens less and less

The wife has put a few scratches and dings on the car already, so its another reason why I wonder if FFSH is now worth it or of we should look elsewhere. (Women drivers i tell you, lol /s)

Recommendations? Bosch garage on Beyers? GP Autoworks by Malibongwe?

We moved to the area here a couple years back so have zero area knowledge of reputable places to go
