Is it worth taking out a service plan for my GTI 5?

My car is currently on 108500km. I bought it at the beginning of the year when it was on 104k.

The next service is obviously @ 120k which will be a major service cambelt etc.

What is the cost of a 120k service for a GTI?

The cost of the service plan is R361/month or R17k till 188k.

I'm not planning on keeping the car long and was planning on selling it around 130k.

Would it be worth it even if I don't plan on keeping the car?

Cambelt service is in the region of R4k including labour add around another R1500 for everything else like oil and stuff

You answered your own question

It basically comes down to the cost of the 120k service.

I've seen prices range from 9000 - 12000?

Service plan wont cover cambelt anyways.

I was told cambelt replacement would be part of the plan.

Cambelt service or cambelt replacement?

What would the cost be of both 120k and 135k service be at VW?

Service plan wont pay for stuff that is broken will it? Hence the 12k service charges, something was broke.

A lot, and you would have to factor in the price of Vaseline.

Any decent mechanic can do a cambelt service for around 4k - at VW, expect 7k+.

Cambelt service is replacement of the belt, tensioner and waterpump.

I would stay away from the dealers, they are expensive and not all do the jobs properly. Cambelt at the dealer is probably in the region of R8k I'd guess. If 135k km service is minor and just filters, oil and stuff about R2k - R2.5K probably less

If you are in Cape Town my friend got his audi a3(its basically the same engine) done at wackers in paarden eiland, did cambelt and major service for R6.8k November last year.

At the rate you're doing the mileage, you'll only hit 120 000km over a year from now, so I suspect that the next service will actually be 12 months after the last one that was done, and not based on mileage.
