Service plan on new Elantra

Right, so even though I have dissed Hyundai over the years I wayed up all my options and it was the best bang for buck on the market. Fast forward a few days, bank has approved the loan and it is now time for me to choose what plans I go for. I opted for just the basic service plan 150k 5yr and excluded the maintenance plan which comes to almost R200 p/m extra.

Good idea? When I opted out the finance lady and sales guy frowned. Is this a mistake or is this just a sales pitch? I still have time to change my mind.

Good choice.

You definitely do not need the maintenance plan, I think the frown is a sales pitch. Maintainance plans are only needed on more complex cars with pricey components IMO, such as Turbos, Multitronic gearboxes etc.

Small correction to your post:
The Elantra has a 5 year 150000KM Warranty and a 4 year 90000KM service plan.

When I bought my new car last year I opted to include the service plan.
We had to take the car in last month.
Parts replaces were fuel, oil and air filters, plugs, wiper blades (factory defect on the one) oil and coolant changed.
Lights were adjusted to my specs, and the car was valet cleaned.
Cost on the invoice. R 1400-00.
Cost to me. Zero.

yes and the Elantra has that - it doesnt have a maintenance plan though (what OP is on about).

I bought the new Elantra about three weeks ago. Got a 5yr/105,000km service plan included (free). The maintenance plan (which is probably what OP is talking about) is about R9000 extra....which I didn't take :/
