Set up a VPN

I want to set up a VPN (stop laughing) so I can access my home network of 2PCs with my laptop at the office. From what I've read it's a complicated procedure involving setting up one PC as a VPN server. I'll be reading up more on the subject over the weekend so any advice of where to start will be appreciated.

Why not use logmein

RDP from work to your machines instead, set your work ip as the only ip for the RDP service to make it secure, you'll get much better performance.

So I've set up a VPN using WinXP. I connected and logged in fine yet I don't see or have any actual access to the server. Files are set up to share so what could be wrong
