Hi Everyone

I have been trying to setup a VPN using dynamic DNS for the past week and have had no luck. I have tried to find as many resources as possible for this and have not found to much. I have used technet articles and setup all the appropriate ISA and router rules for both my ISA server and my router. Unfortunatly for me no-one at telkom or worldonline or just about anywhere can tell me if this has been successfully implimented in south africa. I know its possible because i have found articles on the web of people that have done it.

I just get an error 800 every time i try connect. I have registered a hostname at www.dyndns.org.

when connected to the internet with my laptop i can resolve the name of the hostname to an ip address using NSlookup. I have enable port forwarding for ports 500 and ports 1723, ipsec and pptp respectivley. If anyone can help me resolve this problem or let me know if i am wasting my time it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Regards

Robert

I'm running the setup at the moment.. for about 2 months now. I'm not using IPSec, but PPTP (point to point tunneling protocol), because IPSec's a bitch to get through NATed routes. All you need to do is forward the ports from your NAT-ADSL-router to your VPN server, and you'll be able to connect. I'm running this on Win2000.

Hi I am trying to accomplish the same setup here.

What I have is a Win2000 VPN server / NAT and a good ole Telkom ADSL POTS ethernet modem.

Without even using DNS I cannot connect to the server via the internet. Error 678 There was no answer. That is if I type in my ADSL's WAN IP at the time. If I type in my VPN servers IP its in like a bomb.

Quick network description:

Main Network 10.10.10.x (subnet 255.255.255.0)

VPN Private network adapter: 10.10.10.16
VPN ADSL assigned adapter (using DHCP from the modem): 10.10.1.2 (will always be this since my range is only 1 IP and its a mini network on its own)

ADSL modem WAN: 165.146.x.x (changes)
ADSL modem LAN: 10.10.1.1

On the ADSL modem I have configured Virtual Server to send public TCP port 1723 to private TCP port 1723 on 10.10.1.2. Done the same with TCP port 500 and UDP port 500 (forward to 10.10.1.2)

In the VPN connection, if I type in "10.10.1.2", it works, if I type in 165.146.x.x (whatever it is at that point in time) it says Error 678, no answer. (VPN is set tp PPTP type)

How can I log in via the internet?

Please help
Thank you kindly
