Hi Guys

Do any of you know the process of setting up your own hosting server so that you can sell web hosting. I'm interested in hardware, software and location etc.

Basically I'm currently offering reseller hosting to my clients but would rather prefer setting up my own server.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If you have to ask this question, then you're probably not ready to run your own server.

But basically you need to host in a datacentre, so your first call is to find out if you want to host in sa or overseas.

Find out from your current reseller provider what services they offer on dedicated servers etc.

Well you'll have to have some knowledge about apache if you choose the linux way, or IIS if you choose the windows way. But besides the software, you'll have to get yourself a decent server and then find a datacenter to host it in. This can become quite pricy depending on how much bandwidth you are using. But basicaly thats about is, you take you server to the datacenter plug it into their system, get a static ip and now your ready to host on the machine. But like moklet said, you have to know how if you wanne host your onw servers. Its a whole different story than using a reseller account.

That's exactly what I was going to say.

The easiest way is probably to rent a managed server from Hetzner - they'll set it up and take care of the maintenance etc - you look after the sites you're hosting on it.
