Can anyone help set up a smtp server on a vps ? Please PM.

depending on your distro, how about trying to use google? There's a brilliant tutorial on CENTOS to setup everything on your server. The only "hard" part would be a RDNS that your provider has to do for you that will help in telling the world you're not just a spammer.

goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooogle

i'v tried googling and doing it by myself, cant seem to get it right. I'v been trying on ubuntu because thats what i have most experience in. I can load CENTOS. Will look into it. Do you hava link to the tutorial? Was hoping for someone with experience.

This tutorial shows how to prepare an Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) server for the installation of ISPConfig 3, and how to install ISPConfig 3. ISPConfig 3 is a webhosting control panel that allows you to configure the following services through a web browser: Apache web server, Postfix mail server, MySQL, BIND or MyDNS nameserver, PureFTPd, SpamAssassin, ClamAV, and many more.
Postfix is your SMTP server.
ISPConfig provides a web based gui to configure everything.

This is where people wanting to do anything networking related in Linux should be starting -> Linux Home Networking As a note, they use Redhat/Fedora/CentOS, but do include commands for completing everything on Debian/Ubuntu as well.

Anyway, for mail setup, look under the Linux WebServer Project section for the Configuring Linux Mail Servers guide.

thanks guys! I installed CENTOS and using webmin. Seems to be working well. I'm using sendmail and can send mail directly from the server. Just havent figured out how to configure pop3 yet!

Ispconfig is your friend. But as was mentioned earlier you want to get your hosting provider to setup reverse dns so that you dont get bounced mail.
