How do I go about setting up a broadband connection in Windows 98. I need to setup my router modem as a bridge and connect to the internet from 5 PC's, all with Windows 98 installed. The reason for this is that I want to use VNC on 3 of the PC's to control them from outside the office.

I only managed to get 1 PC working through VNC with the router modem on PPPoE.

Thanks Kev

Can I ask why Win98? Any type of network would be easier to setup by making use at least Win2000 or higher, or for that matter something based on NT.

The win 98 PC's are P2's with only 64 meg RAM and too expensive to upgrade hardware and software.

Probably the easiest way would be to set up your adsl router in router (non-bridged) mode, then to set the gateway in your ip settings to point to it.

The router would log in to your isp.

EG make router 192.168.0.1
pc1 192.168.0.11 dns 192.168.0.1 gateway 192.168.0.1
pc2 192.168.0.12 dns 192.168.0.1 gateway 192.168.0.1
pc3 192.168.0.13 dns 192.168.0.1 gateway 192.168.0.1
pc4 192.168.0.14 dns 192.168.0.1 gateway 192.168.0.1
pc5 192.168.0.15 dns 192.168.0.1 gateway 192.168.0.1

If your router can act as dhcp, then enable dhcp on the router and let all the pc's obtain their network setting automatically via dhcp.

Yeah, if you're going to use Win98 then seriously consider using the router in router mode. It will make your life much easier. All you'd have to do then is set the PC's to use the router's IP as a gateway.

i think u shud be able to run win xp home on it it's runable on my friends p1 laptop?
