I'm trying to setup a Dial-Up Account in conjunction with a Wireless ADSL Connection (Netgear), which is already installed.

I get this Message when I try to create a new Dial-Up Connection: "cannot load Remote Access Connection Manager service".

I've tried starting the service manually in the Computer Management console; get an "Access Denied" message.

Should I uninstall all my wireless gear first?
Any other solution? I'm on Windows XP.

Cheers.

Some more info...

The option of "Connect Using a Dial-Up Modem" is greyed-out in the "Add New Connection" dialog-box.

If I try to add a new connection in Internet Explorer I get the "cannot load Remote Access Connection Manager service" error.

Is this to do with the Netgear installation overriding the XP wizard and configuring the system automatically. I could uninstall the Netgear hardware and software to see if it'll allow me to set up a dial-up connection, but don't want to go through the hassle if there's an easy way around it, plus I want to be able to use the modem when I need it without going through the whole routine.

On Windows XP click on Start --> All Programs --> Accessories -->Communications--> New Connection Wizard
Once u in the "New Connection Wizard"
Click "Next"
Put a mark in the radio button of "Connect to the Internet"
Click "Next"
Put a mark in the radio button of "Set Up My Connection Manually"
Click "Next"
Put a mark in the radio button of "Connect using a dial-up modem"
Click "Next"
And im sure you wud find your way for the next few steps!
to access internet explorer, u will need to configure ur settings under "internet options" to use between dial-up and ADSL, u need a dial-up modem btw.
Good Luck

Thanks for the response. I have the modem installed.
I've tried all the diffirent methods of setting up a new a connection.

The problem is in the last screen all the options except "Connect using a Broadband connection that is always on" is greyed-out, ie. can't be selected.

And when I try other methods I get the errors mentioned above.

thts weird, im using a netgear ADSL Modem/router as well but i can set up a dial up network. I neva had to install netgear software by the way.

Hi and welcome to the forums, try the following:

1. Start / Run / "regedit"
2. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. Expand System
4. Expand CurrentControlSet
5. Expand Services
6. Expand RasMan
7. Expand PPP
8. Expand EAP
9. Highlight the key named "25" / Delete / Yes
10. Highlight the key named "26" / Delete / Yes
11. Close registry editor / reset computer

This is a solution discovered here: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1093553399

Let me know if it works. Good Luck!

hey Tmoose. Yeah, that fixed the problem.
Also restored all the previous connections created.

I have another XP machine here with the same setup, same Netgear hardware, which doesn't have the problem. I think it might have to do with upgrading from Win 2000 (I upgraded when I installed the Netgear). The other machine is new with a clean XP install.

Anyway, thanks for the help.
