I searched this forum now, and couldn't find a "step by step guide" on setting up dydns. Pls point me to where, if it exists.

So here's what I need. We have pastel evolution 3 user at work. My wife needs to do some work in the evenings (not often, but still). So the pastel rep that we use, told us to set up a dydns address, and then we can access pastel over adsl, from home or wherever.

So I want someone to please help me set it up. From what I've read, I have to get a dydns address at www.dydns.org. Will get that so long. Then what do I have to change on the "master" pc at work? Or on it's router/modem, and at my router/modem at the house?

Then, correct me if I'm wrong. I understand this, like I can then log in to the pc at work, and open any program on it, or transfer files, or whatever? Do I have to share anything? Or will it automatically be available?

Then lastly, will I have to change anything on the firewall, or kaspersky internet security?

Thanks so far.

I think you mean DynDns.

The easiest is probably using TeamViewer then there's almost no setup involved.

I saw that in another thread, but will it work as I asked? To be able to use programs, and do changes or whatever on the pc at work, from home or wherever? One of the reasons why I nee this too, is when I'm maybe on holiday, and my mom is on her own. And she has the ability to mess up a pc big time. Then I can fix it for her while wherever.

Teamviewer is remote access software but doesn't require setting up dyndns, your router and firewall etc.

Just install it on both PC's and you'll be able to access them remotely.

Teamviewer is just slow compared to a VPN / Remote Desktop setup
Dyndns is no longer offering free host names - try No-ip - they provide the normal three free host redirects and also have a updater for windows/linux.

Okay I'v eset up an account with them now at home. But tell me, how can I check if I have an dynamic o static ip address here, or tomorrow at work? I have mweb's uncapped at home, and telkom internet at work.

+1 for TeamViewer.
You probably have dynamic IP addresses at both locations. Does your external IP change each time you reset your router? If it does, then you have a dynamic IP. Static IP's are also a lot more expensive per month...

I didn't check to see if the ip changes, but as for the more expensive part, then I think I have dynamic. Thanks

Last night I dl teamvoewer, and installed it on my home pc. Now I did the same on 2 pc's at work. I opened a few programs via teamviewer on the other pc's, and it worked, although it was quite slow, not really a fluent experience. Pastel opened, and once I trid to make an invoice, it crashed, and did the same twice, so I dont think pastel will work like that, or am I missing something? We have at home and work 382 adsl lines, is it too slow? Or will the DyDns setup be faster? Thanks

Anyone care to maybe guide me though setting up of dydns? At home tonight I logged in to the work pc, but hell it is very slow, and not worth it. Thats why I want to try dydns.

Anyone please?

Okay, maybe someone can help me then with this? I created a trial account with DYN. I managed to open ports 5500, 5800, and 5900, as the documents said. Then also I installed a program tightvnc, which was suggested by dyn. But I must say tightvnc isn't a very user friendly program, maybe if there's a better solution out there, pls tell me. Through the program I managed to connect to my own pc, will try tomorrow on the work pc's.

Now I want to know, if I want to connect to my home pc, do I have to download and install any programs on the other pc? Or do I just type an address in my browser, and connect? My hostname (#####.dyndns.com)?

Then lastly, I want to be able to connect to my home pc from work, work from home, and wherever I am to my home and work pc. I see on my account with dyn, I can have 30 hostnames. Do I add every pc I want to be able to view to my account, as a host name? Then wherever I want to log in to that pc, I use its host name?

Thanks a million.
