IS insist we use their stupid cisco router, which is fine and dandy by me, but I'd still want a solution where I can proxy/cache/restrict usage of users on the network.

How would I setup this on IPCop (I'm new to linux too, teehee, good luck explaining to me ;) )

Public IP -> Cisco Router from IS (with static internal IP address that we set as the gateway for users using DHCP from Windoze Server) -> Switch -> Windoze Server -> Everyone else

I'd like this:

Public IP -> Cisco Router from IS (with Static internal IP) -> Switch -> IPCop -> Windoze Server -> Everyone Else (windoze server will tell everyone to use IPCop as gateway)

Try the following setup

Router [ Public IP ]

Try something like this ............

Cisco - Public IP

IPcop :
External NIC - Public IP
Internal NIC - 172.16.10.1

Windows Router ( Use Routing and remote access )
External NIC - 172.16.10.2
Internal NIC - 10.1.1.1

Workstations:

10.1.1.2-255

so physcally, the one nic of IPcop would connect directly to the cisco router and the other nic would go to the switch?

Okay so how do I set that up in IPCop? Cause on the network page there's just upload/dialup/modem setup

Doesn't allow me to configure the other nic

Read the manual :
  • GREEN (RED is modem/ISDN)
[*] GREEN + RED (RED is Ethernet)
  • GREEN + ORANGE + RED (RED is Ethernet)
  • GREEN + ORANGE (RED is modem/ISDN)
  • GREEN + BLUE + RED (RED is Ethernet)

If I remember correctly in the installation at some stage after you have configured the "red" NIC, there is an option to add another NIC which will be the "green" NIC which is the internal one connected to the switch.
