I have previously setup MWEB talk on a regular SIP phone using the settings in this thread as a guide;

In short;
SIP Proxy Server sip.mweb.net
Port: 5060
STUN server stun.mweb.net
SIP account your 278770xxxxxx number
SIP password your password
Codec G729

I managed to get that working on my SIP Phone & 3CX Phone (Softphone)

The reason for my post? I wanted to get it working on my latest toy - a Google (Asus) Nexus 7 running Android 4.1.2

So I logged into my account on Mweb and I couldn't select my device - So I selected "Android" and "Version 4.1" and it requested a cell number. I eventually relented and had Mweb SMS me the link.

It gave me a number I needed to save and a link to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mobilemx.mweb
Just to get told my device isn't compatible!

So does anyone have any suggestions on getting it working with CSipSimple? It's one of the few VOIP apps that support G729 on Android!

I see Mweb is now also offering geographic DDI's (DID's). Do they now do number porting as well?

Thanks AcidRaZor. Its just i find CSipSimple highly configurable and widely supported.

I did manage to get it working and I'll list the 3 methods,

Option 1
Create a Basic account with the following info:
Account name: Fill whatever you want in here
User: 27XXXXXXXXXXX (Yes you can use your geographic number!)
Server:196.28.95.12
Password: **************

Disadvantage - if they change the IP you are stuck between a rock and a hard place

Option 2
Create a Basic account with the following info:
Account name: Fill whatever you want in here
User: 27XXXXXXXXXXX (Yes you can use your geographic number!)
Server:sip.voip.mweb.net
Password: **************

Long press and change the account type to "Expert"
Scroll down until you find "Proxy URI"
change to "sip:sip.voip.mweb.net;hide"

Option 3
Create a new account; Select other country providers > MWeb
Account name: Fill whatever you want in here
User: 27XXXXXXXXXXX (Yes you can use your geographic number!)
Password: **************
(OK I'll admit there is an easy way and I chose the hard way instead - I hope this info can help someone else)

NBNB~!! Remember to select G729 under Settings > Media and deselect the other codecs!

Old thread, but I thought this may be useful:

Getting MWEB talk working on Linux (Ubuntu 14.04)

Installing LinPhone with G729 support

The trick is finding a softphone that support G729 codec, since it's patent protected. A version of linphone is available that supports the codec as a plugin:

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:linphone/release
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linphone linphone-plugin-g729

Disclaimer: I spent a few hours trying to find something that works, but I think these are all the necessary steps.

Configure your router

I found I could make calls, but to receive calls, you may have to, set up port forwarding on your router to send UDP/TCP on port 5060 to the machine that's running Linphone. I also forwarded port 7078 which carries the audio. For added security, I only allow incoming connections from MWEB's SIP addresses (196.28.95.10- 196.28.95.50).

Setting up the software

The Linphone interface is very intuitive, but I had to fiddle a bit to get everything sorted.

Under Preferences > Manage SIP accounts:

Click add

[td]SIP identity[/td]
[td]sip:[email protected][/td]

NB! Under Preferences > Codecs:

Scroll down and make sure G729 is enabled.

Under Preferences > Network

Stun server: stun.mweb.net (I'm not sure this is necessary, or used, since I have 'direct internet connection' selected, and it works fine).

Everything else is left at their default values.

Happy VOiPing :)

I am using a Samsung Note 4 with Zoiper. when on WiFi I cannot get 2 way communication using MWEB Talk. I make the call, generally the far person hears me but I don't hear them. Any ideas what can be done ? MWEB Talk is fine with both the PC and iPad running Zoiper. Getting very frustrated ...

Install and use the Grandstream Wave app. This should give you much better quality.
