Setting up QoS

Has anyone got experience setting up QoS on a D-Link DSL-2740U (or similar)?

I'm trying to prioritize my gaming over downloads, e.g. BF2. But my attempts have failed so far, I'm still getting high pings while downloads are active.

Got this response from D-Link SA:

QoS will not work on ADSL in South Africa. Telkom exchange do not support QoS on ADSL. Telkom want companies/subscribers to make use of Diginet lines for mission critical services. The QoS on ADSL units are thus only available on the LAN side. And that is if all devices on network supports QoS.
