I've got 3 computers at home and want to set up a wireless network at home primarily to share the adsl connnection I have with all 3 computers. I purchased a gigabyte wireless access point for the computer that connects to the adsl and 2 gigabyte wireless network cards for the 2 other computers.

Ive installed the 2 network cards and the access point but am having a lot of trouble setting the whole network up. Ive connected the access point to a ethernet network card. I have the standard telkom adsl router that is also connected to a ethernet network card in the main computer.

I managed to get the internet to work once on one of the computers installed, but my settings for the adsl broadband connection were set on obtain an ip adress automatically, so once i reconnected the adsl the internet wouldnt work again.

Im very new to wireless networking...could someone please explain what settings i need to change for each computer to allow the thing to run smoothly. Any help is appreciated.

Also, the one computer gets a very weak wireless signal as it is quite far away from the access point. Ive heard that you can get boosters to increase the signal strength...would these be of any help?

Thanks Alot

i would rather use an external antenna which you can move around to get better reception.

RTFM! Most of these ADSL wireless routers are really easy to set up. read the manual! and use DHCP!!

if all else fails, try to set up a wireless network with no security/authentication. when all is well, enable securtiy

just be aware of having two DCHP servers on the network. not sure if you adsl router and AP have DHCP on

setup the wifi card and AP close to each other if you think signal is a problem then move after it is setup.
