I have searched for a while now (maybe 2 hours in total) on the net for a simple generic guide on setting up a wireless repeater.

The discussion always turns to "Bad idea, but this is how you add an access point to your existing wifi network."

I do not want a cable between the two routers, I do not want to crawl through the ceiling laying over 50m of cable (yea, huge house), drilling holes through walls a ceilings.

So, where can I find a generic guide on setting up a repeater?

The two routers in question:
Netgear N300 (Gateway)
Old Telkom Mega 100WR (Repeater - it has this functionality)

What I do not know and thus the default guide:
Channel settings?
SSID settings?
Any other settings I should know about?

I know your throughput is halved and whatnot, the reason I do not care to much is that I only need decent internet while in the bedroom at night. In the mornings I can always just switch off the repeater and everything should be flowers again. :p

I did it with a TP-link repeater & Huawei B683 wireless and it worked great....furtherest point I could test was from the domestic quarters, last power point on the property, about 40m away.

If you do not want to get inside the roof and drill holes and patch connectors and all those things that are usual for an IT person, you can always use: POWERLINE ETHERNET.

here some links from scoop:

The first one is just simply Powerline Ethernet. You will connect one unit to your primary router and the other one to your repeater (to be used now as an Access Point).

The second one is Powerline Ethernet with Wireless Access Point. (which means you will need a standard Powerline Ethernet by the router side and by the other side only this Powerline with Wireless will be required).

Basic Repeater configs only need the SSID and Password, anything ontop of that is brand specific and with a bit of luck, might work with dissimilar brands

This is it ^

All you do is set up the SSID on your primary AP, with PWD, put your secondary router into repeater mode, enter SSID & PWD, and that should be it.

Thanks for the replies. Will have a go at it again a bit later and see if I'm lucky getting the two routers to "communicate".
:)
