Hi
Please can you help me understand and how to setup Fixed up address.
I have number of devices in my home that work off my wireless router and want them to connect to my router with a fixed IP address. I have a Netgear router.
On my devices ( Mede8er ) do I add a ip Address , then go to my router and then and then go to my router and add that IP address to the router ?

Thanks
Vaughan

I'm not sure how it'll work on your specific router, but this is how I do it on my router (Netgear DGN2000):

Once you have logged in to your router, under the advanced section navigate to 'LAN Setup'. Once there, there should be a table titled 'Address Reservation'. From there you can click "add" to add your devices with a static IP. If the device is currently connected all you will need to do is input which IP you would like it to use, otherwise you will also need the MAC Address of the device.

I've attached an expertly put together image to try help.

Good luck!

either or but not both :)
you can either set the ip on the router or on the device pointless to set on both.
also you need to make sure the static ip does not fall with in the allocated ip addresses set by the router.
example your ip is 192.168.1.1 and you have the starting ip 192.168.1.100 and end address 192.168.1.120 you set your devices either lower then 192.168.1.99 or higher then 192.168.1.121

Setting on the router (most netgear the same so jamo114 advise should work) is convenient as al the ip addresses are in one place so when adding new devices you know what ip address to use but if changing routers you need to start again - if setting on the device well vice vers of the above.

Setting IP reservations on the router will mean that you can move between networks with your devices without having to remove and reset your static IP config every time.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the advice. Just to be clear, If I do what Jamo114 said and use the ADDRESS RESERVATION option as I also have a Netgear , I do not have to go to my Mede8er and add that ip Address to the Mede8er. The Mede8er will keep the IP address every time I switch on ?

Also my ipad, do I just use the Address Reservation on the router and don't touch my ipad setting.
I tried to see a video on youtube, but found nothing that helps.

Thanks
Vaughan

Correct, basically when your device connects to the router the router will assign what ever IP address you specified for it.

This has the added benefit that for devices that connect multiple places you dont have to change your network settings every time, since _most_ networks use DHCP your IPs will allocate automatically

Thanks guys for your help, appreciate it. Now hopefully my Mede8er will not have to keep resetting the router after I have not used the Mede8er for awhile.
