Hi Folks,

I have a wi-fi router setup at home which I use for all my devices. I usually have the following connected via wi-fi:
- Home PC
- Work Laptop
- Wife's Laptop
- iPad
I use a remote desktop connection from my PC to my work laptop. However, depending on when I connect the laptop to the wi-fi, the IP address keeps changing and hence I have to re-create a Remote Desktop Connection. IS there any way to fix the IP addresses of the devices on the network?

Thanks
Vic

On your router, under DHCP Reservations, reserve an IP for your PC.

Everytime DHCP gives an IP to this machine, it will give the same reserved one.

You can also just set the IP address on your PC itself under network settings if you want

where do I find DHCP reservations? via Contol Panel? On the D-Link Status webpage? (Sorry - found it ..... sorted !!)

Thanks

Hi There,
As everyone said use a fixed address for your pc and you should be sorted.
Using fixed addresses is at times a good way to configure the home network. Especially if you are going to use tools like remote desktop or similar devices on tablets.
Regards

Tim
