Hi i have just got my adsl line installed but am only getting router/modem (netgear) this weekend. Are there any setup guides avaliable anywhere as i am technically challenged!
p.s am signing up with openweb

1) Plug router into power and connect to pc with a network flylead(supplied).
2)Make sure your ip address is assigned automatically.
3)Go to Internet Explorer and type 192.168.0.1 as URL.
user : admin password : password
4)Click basic settings on the left.
5)Ur Login requires a password
6)Select pppoe
7)Enter ur isp account name supplied by Openweb.
8)Enter ur password.
9)Go to the bottom of the page and click apply then click test and the connection status should change to success and the Netgear website should begin loading.

i bought a billion and just plug & played.

only configuration i had t do was change the ip, enter username & password and that was it!

remember to change the default admin password on the router!!!

for netgear, beware of cabling, if you want to use the filter comes with box (highly recommended)
there is a light-yellow cable, both end looks like normal telephone plug, but they are different. one end labled FILTER must go to filter in, other end goes to telkom outlet. for filter out cable, they are easy since they have got different shape, you won't mess them up.

for account settings, login to webbased setup page by http://192.168.0.1 with admin/password by default, only thing you needed is your ISP account info, new netgear comes with auto detect wizard can config your adsl line correctly

out of interest, why do you recomend the filter that comes with - Telkom guy who did my install told me they were cr4p. POTS filters work 100%

we all knew who is cr4p :) if others say that, i believe, but from telkom ...

POTS filter is a low freq. filter (filter out high freq. adsl signal), is used for your conventional tele devices like phone sets and fax machines.

the filter comes with box is a filter/spliter with high freq. filtering function, it will make your ADSL connction more stable

cool thanks :) - will put mine in

Do I still need the POTS filter before the phone?

if you connect your phone to netgear Filter/Spliter outlet, you don't need POTS filter anymore, but you do need it if you have a branch extension before netgear Filter/Spliter.

i agree that the netgear cables annoyed a lot of people, most of them just simply replace it with POTS filter. all of our clients use it under our guide, no one complains
