Hey guys :)

Okay so after a lot of issues with a previous laptop I finally got a new one (MSI GE60 0ND). Bought from iShopOnline for R13 000 incl courier, highest level of service I have gotten in years!

My question is this: this laptop runs dual graphics (Intel HD4000 and Nvidia GTX660M), and using the Nvidia Optimus software, one can manually override which one is used. I want to know, is there a way I can assign a hotkey (or keyboard shortcut) to switch between these two graphics cards? The reason I want to do this is because I don't trust the software when it comes to automatic switching. There is a hotkey on the laptop that can be user set to run any exe, is there a way I might be able to utilize this?

EDIT: By the way,yes I have Googled this, and read through the Nvidia help file, can't find anything. I think the only solution would probably be to write a small program that executes a command to switch cards, and then use the hotkey to run that exe. But how would I go about doing this? I know some c++.

Thank you very much :)

Go into Nvida control center and to this:

It should have another option for non 3D.

Or Simply right click on the app/game icon and hover your pointer over "Run with graphics processor". You could choose from the options as "integrated graphics" and "High performance Nvidia Graphics". That works on windows 7

Thank you for the reply and screenshot :)

The thing is, I know how to change the global and application specific settings, but I want to be able to do this with a hotkey or shortcut, without having to open the Nvidia control panel.

You just have to do it once...

I know, but I don't want to use the GTX660 permanently, I want to be able to quickly switch between the HD4000 and GTX660 while in applications.

To be honest I know this is quite unlikely to be able to do, but this is why I asked here, the combined knowledge of the MyBroadband forum members is more than most large companies' IT departments :p

For less power consumption of course! That will also result in longer battery life and tiny bit smaller electricity bill at the end of the month!

when you are at home or at the office, remove the battery and run directly off AC power, also ive been leaving my monster pc on for about 9 months now and there is hardly a change in the bill.

The switching, unless explicitly overridden by user settings, is load based. It works fine. Really. As long as you're not trying to run Linux on it.
