Convicted fraudster Schabir Shaik is to be released on Wednesday after he was arrested for allegedly violating his parole conditions, the department of correctional services said.

The department said the man who was allegedly assaulted by Shaik could not be found to help with the investigations.

The Sunday Times reported that Mohammed Ismail was allegedly assaulted by Shaik at a mosque on Friday.

Addressing the media at Westville prison on Wednesday afternoon, department officials said their attempts to get hold of Ismail failed.

They said they've been told that Ismail did not wish to give evidence or to co-operate with the investigation.

2. What about the journalist who laid charges of assault against Shaik ? Does her charge not get taken into consideration ?

Of course he is. That is what we do in SA with criminals. How else are they supposed to build up a proper CV & criminal experience if we lock them up 1st time round?
