Just for record, hunters are no longer as easy as people think they are. It takes skill to get your shot rotation right or you loose massive DPS.
I did a test with a friend of mine where I played we both played hunters with same spec & similar gear. My DPS was nearly 1700 more than his. This was purely due to him not timing his shots and not knowing which rotation to use.
That said i am gonna roll a shammy to duel spec as healer & DPS for raids.

Having played both and having an 80 shaman i would say that a) Shaman is more fun because its a hybrid class and b) I've seen shaman hitting extremely high numbers.
But to be honest, either will be competitive on a pure dps scale. It all depends on gear and how the class is played. And they have the added benefit of owning hunters at pvp
but again... purely depends on gear and player. If you ever get bored theres always healing.
Being 70, you should have an idea of what was more fun. Choose based on that, because in the long run all dps classes are more or less evenly balanced.
Anyway, whatever you pick, have fun

so many of these threads out there... just choose the class that you enjoy the most and that suits your playstyle. anyway, ten to one, when you hit 80 with both of them, they will most likely be nerfed. so hard to say which will be best in the future.

I would go shaman in your position as I can't stand playing a hunter.

If your objective is pure dps then go with a hunter.
If you want to sometimes dps or sometimes heal then go with a shaman.
on a flat out dps race, the hunter is way better, but i found i got bored of my hunter very quickly, my shaman on the other hand i never get bored of.
