Hi Guys,

A friend of mine started leveling a Shaman now and it got me itching to play my Shaman again.
(I last played my Shaman raiding Kara in TBC :D :o)

Anyway, I'm now leveling to 85 and currently on 82. I have always played Enhancement and currently doing the same while leveling. My problem though is that I want to shake it up a bit by playing elemental and Resto. (I have never played any of these specs and not going to level from scratch again to try and learn these.

Any tips on playing the above to builds? Rotations, what to do what not to do and so on?

Thanks again for the great assistance I'll get in this section as always :)

I can't remember my Elemental spec atm, but I did a quick build on wowhead for you. Just don't take me as an expert on it:

http://www.wowhead.com/talent#huG0GRfkzGobh, with 5 free points left. If you want, you can move the the point in Convection as well, as it's just a filler.

For rotation, I start of with Flame Shock, Unleash Elements and then Lava Burst. After that it's just Lightning Bolt while waiting for cooldowns and to build up charges for Lightning Shield. When you reach 9, use Earth Shock.
You can add Fire Nova, Earthquake and Chain Lightning to your rotation for aoe.

If you’re going to play arenas, you should play with a lock. Doesn’t matter what spec you are, elemental or resto, just as long as you’re playing with a lock you’ll get an easy 2.2k mmr. Which all depends on your skill level of course. ;)

Ah I see where your'e going with that. I am lvling a new shammy now got to 60 couple of days ago. Elem/resto being resto in dungeon grinding. Lots of fun to play and it feels that they heal better than druids and pallys. (I have both on 85). The enhancement shammys just look so cool when they are on the roll with dps but I have found that they run out of steam pretty quick, high burst output though.

I started a shaman myself.. but seems like shammy healers are not for Ragnaros, none of the good raiding guilds invite shammy's to heal in the fight, so if you planning on raiding Ragnaros and be a resto spec.. try and forget about it :)

Just got call of Elements last night at level 82 or 83 not sure.

Anyway, since I used flame tongue as an off hand buff, does this mean I now need to use flame shock instead of earth shock? Which are the best shocks to use as enhancement? Since tbc days I have always been a big fan of Earth shock so it's just habit. I also noticed that Fire Nova doesn't work on the totems no more but you need a fire shock to be active on one mob.

So my conclusion is to rather use flame shock with my flame tongue off hand. (I have it as an off hand for Lava lash). And Obviously fire nova on multi mob pulls for the AoE. Currently just leveling so not really dwelling into the resto/elemental part of it as yet. But will do closer to level 85.

I have just levelled a shammy to 85. My main spec has been resto and I have levelled doing dungeons mainly. My alt spec is elemental because the gear is similar. Sometimes i do some quests in resto spec while I'm waiting for a dungeon group. With earth shield and healing totem, I'm virtually impossible to kill. Haven't pvp'd yet.

In elemental spec I put down totems, main ones being flame tongue and healing if I'm solo, otherwise putvthe mana totem down. I try to pull from as far as possible with lightning and get at least 2 off to build an extra stack on lightning shield, then flame shock, followed by the flame spell(?) which will cause high dmg if flame shock is up. My next shock spell is earth shock. Mob is dead by then.

In resto, flameshock, flame spell, lightning bolt, frost shock to slow attacks, keep flameshock up and flame spell whenever it's off cd and lightning bolts in-between.

We struggled with Druid healers on bale rock, but they worked it out and we killed bale roc with 2 druid healers and a pally healer on our 2nd kill. I'm sure on Ragnaros it can be done with a shammy. Most guilds don't get to choose which healing classes they can take. Our guild doesn't replace ANYONE just for one boss. If the shammy healer started the raid, we will finish the raid with the shammy healer.

We will work out a way of doing it with group that we have. And that's why I will stay with this guild :)

Btw, I raid with an arcane Mage.

I would use Flame Shock right after using Unleash Elements, and use Earth Shock until the Flame Shock expires on the target. Last time I checked, the Unleash bonues for Flametongue doesn't get used for Lava Lash, so the only spells you can use it for are Flame Shock and Lava Burst. I never checked if the damage bonus applies to the DoT part of Flame Shock.

The reason for using Earth Shock inbetween is that Stormstrike increases the critical strike chance of Earth Shock by 25% for 15 seconds on that target.

Shamans any good at 5-10 man healing?

No problems in 5 man. I haven't raided with a shaman, but our elemental shaman usually changes to healing for lord rhyolith, but mostly we raid with Druid and pally healers. It's not out of choice, they sign up the most :)

Any healing class should be able to heal 10 man, but I know some guilds are picky because they lack the skill required to raid with any class (/duck) :)

@Pitbull: I'm catching up! :D

While we are on the topic of ele shammy's, I am current level 70 and I find that I am struggling to really get decent dps in the 5 man dungeons. What rotation would you pros out there recommend at my level. My gear is basically heirlooms with the rest level appropriate blues with no enchants (I just levelled to fast to keep re-enchanting the new blues).

After reading this thread I started a shaman and healing 85 normal, have to say, I keep up easy with my mana and the tanks. Have not started HC yet. Gear is hast and crit based, not mastery.
