Hi there.

Has anyone been able to test the effect of a shaped account on Skype?

I Skype allot and have found very little difference. Maybe someone else can add to this.

Either seem to work fine for me.

Also, has anyone tried any other VoIP applications? GTalk etc? Anyone with a decent comparison?

I still prefer skype... yahoo talk isnt bad either sometimes even more clear. Shaped or unshaped wont make any difference to the quality of the calls as you dont really require much bandwidth, port shaping only comes into play when you start using more b/w than your account will allow, obviously over the ports that are shaped..VOIP is well within limits

Hi .. I have tried them all .. I mean them ALL ... I am on shaped 384 and Skype is by far the best .. no doubt ... I even use it on the local only account ... I must say that the connection with local only account is not as clear ..

Skype gets thumps up all the way

ok, but for local or international? I'd think the sat connection from IS would make it suck somewhat internationally. Not sure how stringent saix shaping is at the moment as they change it from time to time.

yeah, Skype will find a port and a way out, thats why I like it.

Have used it very well on my shaped 384 line, also use Teamspeak a lot, and that works well also.

My Skype and Ventrilo (like teamspeak) work equally well whether I'm using my shaped or unshaped account. These applications generally use minimal bandwith so you shouldn't be having too many problems, although friends of mine who have opted for wireless generally suffer worse connections.
