Hi, Does it really matter if you used shaped or un-shaped bandwidth when using VPN. What are the advantages of un-shaped over shaped. Thanks

Hi magicman,

Unshaped give better -international- latencies (ping) from the experience I got using them.

The advantage of unshaped is if you need better latencies for your line of work, for example if you use international VOIP a lot for your business etc.

i heard if your ISP is telkom and you chose shaped line telkom blocks certain ports like ftp is this true?

I'm on shaped and have never experienced any ports that were blocked. Not to say 100% sure they don't do it... I've just never had that experience.

If you use the internet for download browsing ect ect shaped is just fine! Even if you do gaming with a shaped account on local servers its still the same as un-shaped. Just international bandwidth is kinda targeted. I used a SAIX local only account to play Call of duty 4 online on the SAIX gaming servers. During business hours I got exactly the same latency as I got 1am. So local isin't shaped that musch just international. I listen to a radio stream with a port 68542 and it doesn't even buffer. So its just about latency I guess. international torrents on a shaped account during business hours is really nasty. 10kbs but once it turns 5pm then max speed!
