Shaped VS Unshaped - which 1 speeds is more consistent ?

If I wanted better or should is say consistent speeds which of the 2 would be more advisable?

From users that have shaped services what's Ur guys speeds ?
Do u guys find during the day the speeds are slower or faster with shaped lines?

I'm considering getting a 1MB ADSL Line but would like to get all the info before I get the line.

What's the advantages of shaped line ?

No, it won't. If the network is busy, unshaped will be faster. In some ways. If there's spare capacity, they'll be exactly the same.

That's on MWEB at least, some of the Mickey Mouse ISP's work on time based shaping.

So it's probably more fair to say unshaped is the same or better in certain circumstances, than shaped. You just have to decide if the much higher cost is worth it, for most people it isn't.

Shaped ADSL

On a shaped ADSL account, priority is given to emails, web browsing, internet banking and "normal" downloads via a web browser or FTP program. This means that any other online activity not included here will receive low priority when the network is busy. This then entails that this option is the best one for most users who do not want to carry out some specialised online activities.

Unshaped ADSL

Unshaped ADSL treats all protocols the same and offers the optimal internet access for Skype, VOIP, forex trading, international share trading, online gambling and secure work from home options as well as VPNs. Unshaped is particularly important for peer-to-peer, P2P applications and video streaming.


If you're planning to game then shaped is fine for local servers.
If you're planning to play World Of Warcraft then unshaped is recommended.

So downloading movies , series etc all will be done via unsnapped

Guess you mean unshaped... for downloading movies, series .. best go for the cheapest offers. i.e. shaped.

Downloading movies won't make a difference between shaped or unshaped, unless is P2P like torrents.

Streaming movies(like Youtube) will make a difference on unshaped will be faster.
