When I subscribed to Iburst a year ago my account was unshaped. Without my approval and without having a choice, Iburst is now shaping my account, with the expectation that I have to pay the same amount as before. Is that fair? I don't think it is. As much as one may dislike Telkom, at least they offer one a choice as regards shaping or no shaping. Let them take legal action against me, but I'm not paying the same price for a shaped account. I want to stay with Iburst, but no further payments to you guys untill you sort this thing out.

And a 3GB unshaped option with Cybersmart using DSL at R629 for 512kbps.

You have the 9GB option?

iBurst should come to the party and allow unshaped protocols on ALL their packages even if they do charge a slight premium for it.

In the perfect world, there would be no shaping or caps, but we live in a country where ripping off customers is a national past time.

And network abuse, I've noticed a significant improvement in browsing since this p2p/torrent problem has started.

If you pay for bandwidth my friend, you should be entitled to use it for whatever you wish.

i guess once they introduce the hard cap on all packages then they can have unshaped account.

VC p2p is unshaped but once you reach your cap then you pay for what ever usage.

To pay R699 for a 3GB shaped account is not good value for money. If they must shape then I would rather have a 1GB account for internet browsing.

They won't do that ever. They take their cues from Telskam and others. Furthermore, p2p shaping/throttling is an international practice, they do it in the UK aswell.

I still don't get the original post, when was your account unshaped?

Only the 9G packages have ever been unshaped. Are they suddenly shaped too? Is it not just the JHB (if you live there) P2P problems that make it look like its shaped? In that case you have even more reason to complain than the others :(

If it was shaped, then I wasn't aware of it. P2p was not shaped when I subscribed. For me it's about having a choice. You'll see, the next thing they'll shape will be VOIP in order to benefit their product Icall. Do it by all means, but not to existing customers. Offer new customers the choices they require.

Tribesm your problem isn't shaping....ITS BLOCKING.

Your p2p was always shaped however (and I assume you're in jhb) JHB p2p is tottally BLOCKED right now. So it may appear as though it's shaped but it's NOT iburst are just yet to admit such a problem.

Everyone here's going through it and it's total poo.

If you weren't on the 9G package then it always was shaped, they made it pretty obvious. Never tried to hide it or anything and nothing has changed besides the P2P screw up/block. Btw shaping isn't the same as blocking, shaped service still run.

Well I'm learning all the time. Does anyone know of music subscription services that offer good value for money that are availible internationally and that are not blocked by Iburst. I'm happy to pay if that is the only alternative.

Well do you mean for P2P?

You can just use Rapidshare links, check the thread on that. Its easy to find tons of albums uploaded to Rapidshare. Oh.. but Rapidshare doesn't work in JHB in any case...

If you want to pay for your music there are tons of sites where you buy the mp3s and download them via http.
