So a while ago I downloaded DOTA through Steam (just to see what all the fuss was about) and wanted to uninstall it now.

No problem: go into Add/Remove Programs (on a Win 10 PC) and click uninstall. Do you think it uninstalled?

Oh no, suddenly Steam's update program opened and started (slowly) downloading a 136MB update for Steam. *facepalm* Who thought that was a good idea? In what possible world would some Steam developer think "Oh yes, let's nail people AT THE TIME OF UNINSTALL to upgrade Steam."

Have you run into any software epic fails like this?

It's more that Steam games need the client to uninstall and yours was out of date.

Yeah, but so? Why does the uninstall require an up to date client? All an uninstall should be is a simple delete, and maybe a prompt whether to keep old save files.

Best part: after it finished installing the first update, it then immediately downloaded a *second* update (only 40MB).

True, probably how the developers intended. They didn't think that anybody would ever let their Steam installation fall out of date, or what a royal pain this would cause when the single game that prompted Steam's installation in the first place needed to be uninstalled.

Don't you buy all your PC games on steam?

Nope, I'm not a member of the Master Race. No PC gaming for me. I've even sold my PS4 at the start of this year. Just wanted to claw some time back for myself, you know.
