Hi

Is it possible to have two different ADSL providers on the same Telkom line? A friend of mine has a Telkom Mega 105 modem/router to which is connected his work PC and I am still working on using that as the router to connect his laptop wirelessly and share the PC's files (but that is a different problem!) His daugter has a Billion modem/router for her MWeb package. As soon as she connects to the internet, her dad looses his connection!

So I assume they can only use one at a time?

No, the problem I am asking about here, has nothing to do with networking - They want to use two DIFFERENT ADSL routers on the same Telkom line, with each one having his own computer/network connected to that specific router. The problem is NOT sharing the connection over the network, it is having two connections over one telephone line!

Yes but simply put, you can use one router and 2 different account running at the same, thereby sharing the telephone connection

So you can use a MWeb and Telkom account on the same line? (Sorry if I sound like I am nagging, but I was under the impression that the router actually "governs" the ADSL connection. Or to put it differently - using the MWeb account settings with the Telkom router, will cause the usage to go off the Telkom Cap?)

Thanx acidb - I saw you PM after I posted the above question! I am going to try it tomorrow! (It is not always nice being the local "IT geek" -just because you love computers and programming does not mean you can do EVERYTHING!)

You can setup different dialup accounts for different service providers and pc's, so yes, you can use both mweb (why, I don't know) and telkom at the same time, just get the daughter to setup her dialup details on her pc and bam, problem solved

Common misconception with the non-geeks

acidb - maybe you should post the little how-to you pm'd to Mykhal. This question pops up over and over again.
