The following is off the http://www.telkomsa.net/products/adsl_telkom_internet.jsp
---------------------------------------------------------------
"Impact once capped - Shared

* No impact to access or applications but subject to available shared bandwidth and can be subject to hard capping rules
* Can access the Internet over a dialup connection

Impact once capped - Usage

* Hard capped requires additional Gigs to remain on line
* Can access the Internet over a dialup connection"
---------------------------------------------------------

When did this change and what does it all mean??

Yes very interesting so what they are saying is that they will hardcap users like me when I reach an unknown amount if bandwith?

Maybe someone else can explain this to us?

From higher in the page ...

Choice ~ Not only do we offer two types of access, shaped and unshaped, but we currently offer a shared cap service and the usage based option.

INSOFAR AS THE PRODUCT OFFERINGS ....
There is no "usage based" option as such.
It does not exist as a product, and is instead implemented by selling the user who wants a "usage based" option more GB's of bandwidth on request by supplying the user with another username and password.

As of when ... nope - always been able to purchase this [once capping came in].

i.e. Teklom make it look like they're offering a new service by doing nothing.

Questions ?

From digging around more on the website it looks like usuage based is the R199.00 Basic package with 2Gig HARD cap. Once you're capped thats it, buy another account.

Capping rules are different for the Advanced and Premium where they claim not to cap local access ( as it was pre 1Nov)

Anyone confirm I am understanding this correctly

Why can't they specify what the hardcap limit is? For those who have businesses it is very hard to plan your services based on a "mystery cap" system. I suppose they're terrified that if they name a figure then everyone will aim for it - or that the service will become known de facto as a 10GB/15GB/30GB or whatever account?

This just makes the whole thing overly complicated and unpredictable. If they're prepared to allow usage over the existing cap, why don't they just work out what the new cap would effectively be by working out the historical average and raise the cap to that level?

Agreed - Imagine if your pre-paid cellular phone package cut you off after some undisclosed time.

I see what they are get that, but they are leaving a gaping loophole in the contract for themselves to climb out of.
