Sharepoint 2010 - SQL Connection for List

Need help setting up a "always on" connection to SQL for a Sharepoint list. BCS isn't working because of lack of permissions even after setting up a Secure Store to manage the Permissions. Is there any recourse? Anyone pulled this off?

Use SSIS and create a timer agent job that will run the package at your set intervals.
