Hi I need help, my neighbour agreed to share his borehole water with me. How would one go about setting this up. I am thinking of putting a 10000 liter tank this side with a floating sensor that automatically activates the borehole pump, he has the same. How would one combine these setups? Thanks!

If your tanks are close to each other and the same level you can simply install a pipe at the bottom of both tanks which connects the two and will level the water in each tank.

Hi, thanks haven’t thought of that! The thanks are quite far from each other on opposite sides of the properties. They are level though, do you think it will work?

The distance of the pipe doesn't matter just the levels of the two tanks, gravity will push the water to whichever tank uses water. Take your hosepipe and put clear tubing on both ends and fill with water, hold at both tanks to get the level.

a PUMP between the two tanks will move water from the one tank to the other.
A float sensor will shut the pump off when full.

Chances of them being totally level are slim but you can feed the highest one first and then feed the lower one from there with a float valve.

Thank you for your valuable contribution. I do however need a non African style solution.
You connect two tanks together at the with a pipe or a hose and they will level themselves off depending on their relative heights. Assuming each is of sufficient volume to compensate for the time it takes to do so.

So yeah, a hose.

Aren't you lucky.

My 2c.

Have the water tested/tasted.

Consider a filter system. Mine tastes better than valpre.

Presumably he also has a tank?

Automate and share the levels with your neighbour. I Use sonoff sv and sprinkler solenoids from Leroy. I did it awhile ago but see they have got alot better. I did a Tuya device automated with home assistant.

Basically fulls up 1 or both tanks. Works a charm. Piped into my house via booster pump which is my only regret not spending too get the best.

You can't believe the difference in clarity, taste and smell. Won't turn back.

Who's paying for electricity?

I share my roof water with my neighbour

I have 2 x 4000 litre tanks. From experience, it takes 8 to 9mm rain to fill both tanks (there are 6 roofs feeding into 2 tanks, with a dirty water bypass system)

Then the second tank is connected to my neighbour at the top with a 40mm class 6 pipe, supported with a steel rod. When this fills up, it overflows and goes into his tank

Its worked well since 2015

Thanks for the input and wow (and also thanks to all the others, what an amazing forum this is). He have multiple tanks with a purifaction system. Will definately check out your sonof system. He is kind of off grid with his solar and battery system, lol but will give him a bottle of brandy now and then

dont go overboard ,as bwana suggested a gravity fed simple system is the best with a pipe between the 2 tanks ,so when the muni finds out and one of you has to register as a water supplier or unplug (area dependant ,its easy to undo )(If your neighbour has not been authorised and registered as a water services provider he may not supply a water service nor may he charge therefore.)once the muni guy has left you just plug it back in again .

Can you elaborate on the supplier stuff?

Why complicate things? Routing my roof water to a neighbour's tank for watering the garden is just a kind gesture. I don't charge him

yes there you are correct ,that is perfect ,its when pumps and devices are shared across boundary lines is when things go pear shaped .by supplying gravity fed to your neighbour is 100%and a great idea .
