Ok here's the situation, I can see my share home directory on my mac from a Windows box, but not my external HDD.
Adding the External HDD in the home directory makes an alias but windows cant open the alias, how the frack do I open the external HDD from Windows to copy files to it?

neio, I'll see if I can get my HP to boot at all (it's very much on its last legs) and try it out, but in the meantime, is anything else explicitly shared? I'm asking because I haven't seen really seen a way to share folders yet. Looking at the smb.conf file (the configuration file for windows-style sharing) there are only two shares defined - homes (i.e. your user directory, based on your username/password) and printers.

Not gonna work for me.

"Note: It has been reported that folders that reside on a disk formatted as a HFS disk will not be shared. You can check the format of your disk by getting info for the disk in the Finder. If it says "Format: Mac OS Extended", then everything should work well."

Mine has been formated as HFS, but no worries, I moved all my music and copied 30 GB at a time so I'm done

Instead of sitting on the PC why didnt you just copy from your mac to the pc?

Cause the network is setup in a weird way with the router changed to hide certain stuff.

Was too much of a hasstle to try and figure out what needed to change.

PS, found the solution today.

Got to System Preferences/Sharing/Xgrid and turn it on, then you need to specify Authentication none.

You will then be able to see the external drive from both Mac and Windows.
