If a 512kbps account is shared the PIR (peak information rate) is shared, i.e. each line gets 256kbps...

This method would probably be the cheapest if my folks and I both got uncapped. I want to know if the difference between 384kbps and 256kbps is big and noticeable when browsing?

Anyone else here sharing uncapped? Which ISP's are you using and how is it??

The two "known brands" that I have found that allow sharing on uncapped are:
Axxcess (R296): http://www.axxess.co.za/internet.php?account=uncapped&pk=512
Imagine (R295): http://www.imagine.co.za/home/uncapped-is.html

I'm not 100% sure how the splitting of speed works. If it works dynamically then a user should get 384 speeds if the other isn't using it.

IDK broo, 384 is still pretty slow. Youtube takes oodles of patience, surfing is acceptable, but also requires patience. I don't think it'd be right to inflict 256 on someone you love! ;)

Most uncapped accounts will not allow more than 1 concurrent connection, or if they do not from different numbers (which they can see when you connect).

I am not sharing a line, but I'm sure for general browsing, you won't notice the difference between
256 and 384. (based on my usage below).

I have something or other downloading (or uploading) almost permanently, on a 384kbs line.

I rate limit the download in the range of 15 - 25 KBs/s and generally have no problem;
browsing, emailing or using IRC. (Day or night)
Only if I need to skype (with video call) or similar do I have to suspend the download.

Thanks for the reply...
Thinking it might be better and work out better financially for me to share the cost of a 384kbps uncapped account with someone in the house where I'm staying rather...

Leaving this thread here though in case someone else has the same idea...
