Hi. I am thinking about sharing my soon to come 200mbps fibre with neighbours. It was just an idea that popped into my head. I have read through the ISP's Terms and conditions over 3 times and couldn't find anything which says sharing your internet is not allowed.

If it is possible i want to use a cat 6 ethernet cable, run it underground and up to my neighbour's house. His garage is about 1m away from our house so digging a small hole won't be a problem.

Is there any other things i need to consider before doing this? As i said. Already looked through the ISP'S Ts and Cs and couldn't find anything saying its not allowed.

Other than ISP T and C's, make sure you are able to limit his speed and download cap.. Nothing quite like your neighbors behaviour resulting in you getting throttled etc..

If you will be charging him for the internet usage, maybe look at getting an agreement between the two of you on paper with the specific conditions under which you provide it to him, payment terms etc..

Essentially, cover your ass..

Why don't you just get an ISP that allows concurrent connections? Then you don't need to trench any cable.

can one run two routers on a single fibre line?

iirc Vumatels CPE box has 4 ports, so could one connect multiple routers which in essence would have multiple networks independent of each other?

Thanks for the replies. The package I'll be taking wont be throttled or shaped. And yeh, ill be blocking any website that can link to illegal activities such is torrenting movies.

Ill be getting a mikrotik router to give my neighbour his own pppoe connection so we won't be on the same network. Oh and you cant have a concurrent connections on uncapped packages. The ethernet cable will only be 1m under the ground. You can dig your own hole in 5 minutes so it's not a big deal.

Why, what's the point? They can get their own connection.

You're just opening yourself up to hassle to share the costs, far better solution to just get a slower line if you can't afford or need 200meg.

My complex/estate doesn't have fibre connection. They are having issues with Telkom not too sure but we wont have fibre for a while. I will be feeding fibre speeds to my house wirelessly having much faster speed than adsl. I can offer people far higher speeds at a lower cost

Someone has been listening to the wisp salesman... There's no such thing as wireless fibre, a pig in a dress is still a pig.

Still nothing stopping your neighbours from getting their own connection and avoiding all the faff.

The way ill get the internet is for another thread. WISPs charge insane prices for what its actually worth, because they can reach speeds at places where its not possible so they'll generally charge more. I guess the neighbours can go with a WISP but the nearest WISP tower is quite a far distance away with trees and obstacles in the way of us. Unless they can get it from someone running a wisp from their home getting a solid internet speed right now here is practically impossible, unless you go with LTE which doesn't offer uncapped packages.

Ah so a connection, presumably wireless, to a nearby house outside the complex that is getting fibre...

Getting more complicated every post.

Unifi USG
Unifi Switch
Unifi APs

#profit

Unifi products are aimed more towards your own house or business in 1 building. I wanted to go with an edgerouter but it didn't allow bandwidth control so I wanted to go with mikrotik routerboard. Also considered a nanostation loco m2 but its illegal without a license.
