Scores of sharks are currently involved in a feeding frenzy off Port Elizabeth's southern beaches.

Bathers and surfers are urged to exit the water immediately at Kings Beach, Humewood, Hobie and Pollock beaches - until further notice.

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality spokesperson Kupido Baron says a whale carcass is floating about 300 metres off-shore and has attracted a large amount of sharks.

He says members of the National Ports Authority, beach office and NSRI are keeping a close eye on the situation.

"Our lifesavers and beach office employees are currently dealing with it and monitoring the situation but we are appealing to bathers to stay clear of the water" he said.

Did that French kid fall off the ship?

I imagine the surrounds of Bird Street and North End are quite quiet today with everybody having taken to visiting a high worth gambler
