So my wife dropped my iPhone and the back of it shattered - looks like a windscreen that's been in an accident and is dropping slivers of glass all over the place. I assume for repairs it will have to go back to MTN?
As far as I can recall they don't repair iphones at all? May be different now but that was the case when the original one came out here. Maybe check with an apple store first? MTN could book your phone in without knowing this and leave you hanging for 6 weeks and then return your unrepaired phone to you. Would make me pretty mad.
That's why I'm asking the question. It's insured. If I send it back to MTN, will they replace and thus keep the warranty? Or will they honour the warranty if it is repaired by someone like ifix.
As far as I know iPhones are still not "officially" repaired in SA, so if your phone is insured for accidental damage I would claim for a new phone. This was by far the easiest route to follow when my wife's iPhone 2G died.
Depending on the insurance company they might let you keep the old phone or sell it back to you to recoup some costs in which case you can see if it can be repaired by yourself or a 3rd party.
