Hi

I'm a fan of shaving using double edged razors and am on the lookout for a physical store in Jhb that stocks decent shaving products - razors, creams/soaps, balms, styptic pencils, feather blades etc.

Any suggestions?

I especially want to find some feather blades. The locally available BIC and SuperMax blades don't really do it for me.

I know you said physical but also check out river valley trading and mastershave on bid or buy.

There are bit many physical shops that sells DE and SE shaving equipment.

There is also a Mastershave forum.

Cool, thanks. I see they have what I need. Order placed.

Remember to not shave your mo...

It's Movember ffs.

Damn right. The mo stays. :)

As an aside, I'd also be keen to know what you guys use. I've been DE shaving for about 2 years now and will never go back to multi-blade razors again. Best shave ever! And saved a ton when it comes to blades.

I don't use many lotions etc. - I have a brush and used to use shaving soap but now I simply apply a layer of Prep after showering for a nice soothing shave. Though I'm open to options.

As a company the men register on Movember's site and we collect money. Everything we collect the company matches 100%. Guess it depends on company to company though.

Yeah - our company does it too - everyone who is in registers on movember.com

Sharp Edge in Sandton City also has a nice range. Can be a bit pricey for some items though.

Little update. So I tried the feather blades and am quite stunned by how much better they are than the bic/supermax ones.

I also picked up some Proraso shaving cream at the same time so that may have something to do with it, but it's seriously worth the extra cost for the feathers (R79 for 10). Having a tough beard has always been an issue for me when it comes to shaving but these blades just glide through the stubble. Nice! And fewer passes mean less irritation.

Oh, and thumbs up to MasterShave for their prompt service (and free samples).

Feather blades are a bit sharp for my skin at the moment as I am still new to DE shaving. You should buy a pack of sample blades that way you can test a whole bunch of blades to find which blades work best.

Be sure to also check out river valley trading as they make their own soap which is awesome!!

Yep, I have been DE shaving for about 2 years now and have learned that a lot of it comes down to technique and prep. Maintaining the correct angle and minimal pressure always results in a better shave. Almost zero pressure is ideal, plus be sure not to shave more than 2cm at a time. That's why I like the feathers as you really don't have to do any work, just let the blade do all the work for you.

I might just try their sample packs to test the alternatives, just to be sure. River Valley Trading is (I think) the same company, so will definitely try their stuff in future. Very happy with my purchase and their speedy service.

Nope 2 different companies. Be sure to, if you want, check out the mastershave forum.

Glad to hear the Feather's are treating you well and thank-you for the thumbs up!
