Shein

Nike.com has an interesting thing going, the way it looks like they operate is to be able to ship globally but not incur huge customs duties on the selling price is they actually import the shoes under whatever company Nike operates in the destination country, when you order from Nike.com the sale goes through their local subsidiary not Nike USA. So for South African they use their local Sa based operation and that enables them to only pay duties on the wholesale cost price of say R1700 vs normally it would be on the full R3k+ and ridiculously high.
This is a great explanation.
@RedViking stop snorting coffee, read this and learn something.

Thank you so much for your insight. It really gives one a different perspective. I value the experience and wisdom you shared. You have a real gift and I am humbled.
Thanks the Mod Gods for giving us a Platform to learn and teach one another. Don't thank me.

There's so many international companies using some kind of trick in order for the customer to pay as little import tax as possible, I've recently ordered some outback boots from Australia, total cost was around R3000, only paid like R50 import tax, couldn't understand it at first and was stressing that I'll be getting the wrong item or something. That's until I saw the paperwork, the invoice they attached to the parcel showed that the item was only like R600, they basically know what the no tax import limit is in SA and then adjust the price on the invoice before dispatching.

I'm not complaining though, and will be using them again for sure. F**k SARS, and the government.

Which courier service was used for the shipping from Australia? did you have to go through the post office this side and how long did you have to wait to get your boots?

AusPost was used, the international express option, which then goes via EMS on this side which if I remember correctly is part of Post office, but they handle only the higher value international imports and deliveries, so don't actually go to the Post Office, thank god. They delivered directly to my workplace.

I'm waiting for a package sent via Auspost too, I think the retailer used International Standard tho, not express. Don't really know what to expect. Item value AU $156.60 - AusPost tracking states in arrived in SA on Monday but EMS says tracking number not found :( so don't know if I'll be that lucky.

JOHANNESBURG—South Africa’s government said Monday that it is investigating fast-fashion company Shein following complaints from the local textile union and industry association that it may be exploiting tax loopholes to gain an unfair advantage in Africa’s most developed economy.

A spokesman for the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition declined to provide details on the investigation, but he said that it was initiated in response to concerns raised by labor and industry groups. The issues raised by the South African groups resemble complaints by manufacturers and unions in the U.S. that claim that Shein and other Chinese retailers are taking advantage of an exception in U.S. customs law that allows them to import goods without paying tariffs.

The South African government normally charges tariffs of between 40% and 45% on imported clothing, depending on the value, but Shein may be paying as little as 10% to 20%, Mr. Vlok said.

Shein is Chinese. And SA wants to be bailed out by BRICS i.e. CHINA. So I wouldn't be surprised if one day SARS is told to not touch Chinese imports and if they do, well Chinese cops will want a word with the SARS boys and girls. If SA wants to be in the Chinese world order, SA will have to conform and bend the knee.

I bought some goods via the online way. After a week I got I notice that my order is on hold for security reasons. They requested me to send photos proof of something. They never stated exactly what proof I must send through. I send them some photos, but this seems not to be enough. Today I received an email that my order was cancelled and refunded. Will it be easier and better to order by using the app?

I have family member that ordered by using the app with no such security issues, she was not asked to send photos proof of something.

How does your purchased items get delivered from Shein?

Is it postal box or direct to your physical address?

My wife tried it for the first time recently. Order was placed and a few days later she was contacted saying it was at customs. She made a payment for the required amount and it came to our door via courier.

Descriptions normally detail the sizes in centimeters or inches because they're mostly Chinese smaller sizes.
