Shell wants to leave South Africa

International oil giant Shell is preparing to pull out of South Africa after operating in the country for over 120 years, City Press and Sunday Times report.

The news reportedly follows a dispute between the oil giant and its long-term BEE partner, Thebe Investment Corporation, over an R3.7-billion stake in Shell Downstream South Africa (SDSA).

This is a rather precarious situation. Shell is pure evil, and Thebe is no better, all gov connected and bribes all the way.

Fracking in protected areas, strong-arming indigenous communities and destroying unique and irreplaceable natural resources both on land and off our coast. All in a days' work for these guys (Thebe and sHell)

But, this sector, including in no small part Shell, supports the livelyhoods of hundereds of thousands of people in ZA, directly and otherwise.

Greed, corruption and shortsightedness will once again cost the man on the street dearly.

Honestly best for Shell would be just to close down all those petrol stations. Looks like no more Shell Ultra Cities along the N1 freeway to JHB. And probs over 10 000 job losses, but who cares. They can withdraw and the staff can get the SRD instead.

BBBEEE Legalized theft.

Unless those BBBEEE shares were paid for, they should be worthless. Also those BBBEEE members need to actively help to promote and grow the company. If they dont, there should be a clause giving then 0 value.

I urge Shell to leave South Africa. We can raise taxes to pay for another 10-20k people via the SRD 350 allowance.

They are and they probably could if Shell pulls out. Shell no longer refines in SA after their Durban refinery was flooded.
