I've recently got into fish tanks and the two tanks I've bought, have built-in LED lamps for plant growth etc. But the small one I had built, doesn't have a light.

So I've been looking for a light for the plant growth and checked out quite a few brands and types - but I bought a Shelly DUO and there's one feature that differentiates it and makes it ideal for this : transition time.

On setting a schedule, it allows one to set both an intensity and colour temperature. But the best part is the transition time. The default is milliseconds - but I can set a transition time over hours and mimic a sunrise perfectly where it very slowly turns up.

It's a niche feature, but I think a very useful feature in some cases.

Seems to have the best quality of light as well from the ones I've used

You do realise a grow light isn’t just a light right?

It has specific colour temperatures that make the plants grow. It’s not just a case of being a light.

They're about R300.00 each.

Far more settings than my TUYA!

It's got a Night Mode that limits the bulb to a set intensity between a certain time. Quite a nice feature when I feed the babies at night and switch on the light

Light isn't the same color temperature throughout the day. Early morning and late afternoon are warmer whites with less intensity.

The bulb does from up to 6500k and high intensity at midday before dropping. It's only 2700k at sunrise.

Depending on the plant, they reckon between 5,000 and 7,500k is ideal.

At 6,500k it's pretty much the same as my Fluval.

These bulbs are smaller than the TUYA too.

But I like the features which none of what I've used before have. The Sonoff and various TUYA brands pale to this. IMG_20210423_073151.jpgIMG_20210423_073054.jpg

I’m thinking of getting 15x Shelly Duo GU10’s for my room and bathroom. Does anyone have any experience with the GU10’s vs other brands like Vizia or Bneta?

I haven't

I've played with Sonoff and some Tuya and they weren't great. The colours were a bit dim and the white weren't great (only RGB and not RGBW).

I can't comment at all, but I'd assume the white would be better with a White channel

Edit - Sorry - I don't know where I got that you wanted colours. In whites, my DUO outdid the rest and terms of intensity, white quality and features. I think the GU10 has the same specs, so can't imagine it being too different

Seems like putting a Shelly behind the light switches will be a better idea than 15 smart light bulbs?

That's what I did.

So I initially bought 3 x DUO for my lounge and eventually just replaced with them all with a Shelly Dimmer 2.

The only thing I couldn't do was change the colour temperature, but I could still do power monitoring /dimming

I now use the one of the DUOs in the fish tank above

I actually do want the RGBW ones so I can change the colours. I think that would be an awesome thing to do lol. I want to create a disco in my room hahaha. And of course change between cool and warm white.

But wouldn’t that just be a dimmer. I wouldn’t be able to change between cool white and warm white, or use the RGBW colours.

No, you can't do that... So yes, you'll lose that ability by using a Dimmer 2

Ok so the RGBW is the way to go in my case. Just not sure how bright the colours. Can’t find any reviews on the GU10’s.
