The decrease in road fatalities this Easter was attributed to law enforcement officers' hard work and the fact that the school holidays were separated from the Easter weekend.
However, Transport Minister Blade Nzimande believes that there isn't a single reason for the 48% decrease in the number of road fatalities.
According to a preliminary report the minister released on Thursday, 162 people died on the country's roads during the Easter period in 2019, compared to 309 in 2018. The report covers the period from April 18 to April 22.

Factors leading to the decline

The minister said that the separation of the school holidays and the long Easter weekend lessened the pressure on the roads and may have been a major contributor to the reduction in fatalities.

Please don't blow Cele's chip off, it's actually due to more "visible" policing, the ones people suddenly break once spotted in front causing a potential accident situation around them.

Yeah it's got nothing to do with the fact that it now costs a lot more and money isn't exactly flowing?
I mean the government has done everything in their power to make petrol so expensive it's now incredibly expensive to drive around.
So yeah that does also drop the road death rates.

You and Blade are in agreement.

These fkers brag about things they are meant to do and paid to do. If you did your job properly every day then you wouldn't be so chuffed about an appalling outcome.

Unfair if you look at it more carefully, it is the responsibility of drivers to be careful and drive safely on the road, for a mere fact that the government has to police us to do the right thing points to us as drivers being the problem, the officials have a right to brag when they have whipped us back into line and we do the thing we were supposed to do on our own in the first place.

And would you not blame them if the death toll had risen? I know you would.
