I work shifts, and a few days before Xmas my shift changed. It's a night shift, so I lose out on a Public Holiday. Had already made plans with family in advance. So now I have to go back on my word and probably miss out on seeing some family members this year. I thought they were supposed to give 2 weeks notice for this kind of thing?

Huge Company not a small one, not a poor company. Any advice? Guess I'm buggered.

For the company I work for there is a 2 week notice given for a shift change. Any chance did u ask your union about it if u have one.

Read your contract. If it states that the company has the right to amend hours due to operational considerations (or a variation of that) and there isn't a timeline associated with their right to amend hours... Guess you'll be videoing family via Skype this xmas. Sorry.

Sorry, no Union. I wish.

Huge company with no union? or is it just you that's not a member? you can still approach a shopsteward even if you aren't a member and hear what they say, most managers will quickly change their mind at a mere mention of a union if they know they are taking chances and they do that a lot on unsuspecting workers. If it's in your contract you will just have to grin and bear it, find comfort in the fact that you'll be the one who is entrusted in holding things together while everyone is away having a good time.
