Recently ordered a calculator from India. I only have experience with shipments from China, which I know can take anywhere from a few months to over a year before you get your hands on it. Is this the same case with shipments from India ?

Yeah, I'm interested to know what's so special that OP has to import a calculator?!

Nothing special, just wanted a specific calculator. Please find me some merchant selling the Casio FX-991EX in South Africa.

Nope, can't find it.

Why not rather get it from Amazon? $30 with standard shipping and $37 if you're in a hurry.

I don't buy a lot of items overseas, kinda forgot about Amazon... Should have rather bought it from there, but the item has already been shipped.
So now I play the waiting game, hopefully it doesn't take THAAAAT long.
The reason from India is just that I shopped on eBay, was just looking for a reputable seller, which happened to be shipping from India.

I have ordered stuff from China on a few occasions, longest I waited was 8 days.

I'd also like to know, will the tracking number change when the package reaches South Africa for registered post ? I had a China order and that stayed the same till it reached my local Post Office.

Yes when it enters S.A , SAPO provides the local tracking number.

I recall in my younger high school days there was the Casio & the Sharp calculator camp.

I think I was in the Sharp camp...

In my day it was HP vs Texas Instruments. Being able to use the HP with it's reverse polish notation was geek one-upmanship.

I used an abacus.

Wasn't that at pre-school. With a counting frame? :p
