So guys, Shipped from newegg.com to my cousin in USA.

Around just over $1200 worth of goods. Bought just when exchange rate was under R7.

Total shipping time, around 13 to 14days, from originally leaving newegg to my post office here.

Total customs charged for 2 seperate big boxes. R25 each ;)

Will customs always be the same?

I'm sure they have some rules about this, but some people have been charged more than that...

Description of goods -> 21st Birthday presents / hobby ;)

Shipping came to just over R500.

No VAT was charged, only R25 handling fee

that's crazy. thanks for letting us know. Newegg is the bomb.

So how many Kg's/Pounds was everything? For R500 and the time it took to get here that isn't bad. But you do know you were lucky to actually get the stuff. It takes anything from 1-2 months for anything to come from the states from my family.

wait, newegg can ship to south africa? i thought it couldnt! how much is shipping?

If you read it carefully, he shipped the from Newegg to his cousin in the USA. His cousin then sent them to SA. Or more simply:

Newegg --> His cousin in the USA --> SA

They don't . You either need a relative in the US to buy it and forward to you or use a mail forwarding service.

Was 12kg's.

Motherboard, CPU, GFX card, RAM, Hard Drive/s, Media Center Player/Streamer.

Sometimes they get you and sometimes they dont. Either way its usually cheaper getting it abroad even if customs goes to town on your delivery.

If you ship items in a home-wrapped hand addressed box, with a GIFT description your stuff will go thru without TAX usually. However, if you
repeatedly get such parcels or if it had been sent from a store (printed label, store logos, full price declaration for insurance purposes) they will nab you.
