So my Audi (2008 A4 3.0TDi Quattro) is due for new shocks.

Have to admit, I am not the most knowledgeable person on the topic.

Is there a specific brand that I should consider or are they much of a muchness.

Got quotes for Monroe (R5850) and KYB (R6500) to replace all 4.

Depends. For those prices, those shocks are OEM spec. That being said, look for Gabriel and KONI shocks as well.

Just for a normal everyday car you can't really go wrong if sticking to reputable brands, Monroe, Gabriel, Koni etc.

Monroe is OEM. But you can never go wrong with Bilstein either. Bit expensive though

Was considering Bilstein, but out of my budget.
Went to get a quote and test shocks. So after today, I have one test that states shocks needs replacing and the other that says that everything is fine.

Will now get a 3rd opinion. Any suggestions of a trustworthy centre to test at close to Roodepoort area?

Why were you considering replacing them in the first place? Did someone suggest it or you thought it was time to replace them? I think that is where you need to start. No point in getting all these tests

At about 110kph or above, there is a vibration coming from what feels the front. When going over a speed hump, the shocks sounds like almost they are "dry". If that makes sense.

Had wheel alignment checked as well balancing. No issues there.
Next step for me in process of elimination was to have shocks checked. After 1st test had result that shocks needed replacing. Reason for 2nd test was that I wanted to make sure (I am paranoid like that), but got the everything is OK result.
Hence I want a 3rd opinion. The result will sway my decision.

Also, Audi is now on 145k km on the clock. Had it since 95k km. I have not replaced shocks and I am not sure if the previous owner did. Did not see anything on the service report from Audi.
