MOIPONE MALEFANE

ONE of President Thabo Mbeki’s most trusted lieutenants has broken ranks and delivered a scathing attack on his leadership at a meeting of ANC leaders in the Free State.

Former Limpopo Premier Ngoako Ramatlhodi, once an Mbeki confidante and his chief speech writer, and now the ANC’s head of policy, told a meeting of ANC Free State leaders yesterday that Mbeki was the main source of divisions in the ANC.

Ramatlhodi revealed to stunned delegates that he had personally challenged Mbeki on his autocratic leadership style, and had asked him in an ANC NEC meeting why was he “dividing” the ANC.

“What s**t is this? People are being charged for nothing, look at Tony Yengeni, Zuma and Pat Matosa,” Ramatlhodi said in his address to the Free State provincial general council yesterday.

Ramatlhodi last night denied that he had told the delegates that Mbeki was a source of division in the ANC — but several ANC leaders present at the meeting confirmed to the Sunday Times that he had made the critical remarks.

That remark [in bold] probably reflects what most of the ANC think right now - a "comrade" being guilty is an unthinkable event.

Divisions in the ANC is good IMO - a single party with overwhelming power is never good. If it does split up we'd have the 2 halves of the ANC along with the DA all competing for votes and the only way to win votes would be to deliver (finally). Service delivery at a fast pace could finally be a reality.

Unfortunately, the ANC parts will tend to fight one another with AK47's rather than words ...

Ja, and how quickly we forget these things (or ignore them as having no bearing on our reality.)

Guess they dont like Mbeki cos he aint their puppet and he isnt willing to sit like a little lap dog while Zuma and Yengeni do their shady deals..

lame assss corrupt ANC scum... if only Mbeki could serve another term and start his own party :/

Mbeki isn't exactly innocent in this whole thing either - let's not forget his AIDS policy leaves a lot to be desired. If the party does split up, they'll all catch a wake up really quickly.

Sounds like Sour Grapes to me?

Case of the person not getting what he thinks he should get, because he was part of the struggle and knew Mbeki when in exile.
And since when does this mean that you qualify for a handout or position?
Now because he misses the gravy train, he now blames the President to seek attention and gain popularity with all the other mob trying to gain a few points from the Zuma Saga.

That is my assumption on the matter. :)

I hope the anc breaks apart. It would be good for SA in someways tho I am weary of political parties incl. opposition parties. Oh well I still think if there is gonna be a split we gonna be in for a rocky period, lets just hope it don't go the way other african countries go thru this.

The article implied that Mbeki was part of the problem. He's a control freak at the best of times.
