Shock horror! Core drop pricing!

Really hope this it true! Core's reseller price list is still showing the exisiting prices though...

Macbook White RRP 11,999
Macbook RRP 12,999 and 16,999
Macbook AIR RRP 16,999 and 20,999
Macbook Pro 15" RRP 19,999 and 20,999

Wow Core...I am in awe... Those are for the outgoing models though, right? Any idea what the new ones are gonna be priced at? Just checked Digicape.co.za and there it says those are for the old models. Interesting that there is only a R1000 difference between the two 15inch Pro models!!!

Yes, those are for out going models. No word on the new ones yet.

regardless.. They're still way too expensive. May also be a case of "too little, too late"

Ya that is true, still too much. But at least it is a step in the right direction, no? I mean, rather R20,999 then R28,999 etc.

Any idea what their justification on the price drops was? Cause with Core wouldn't be surprised if they came up with some wishy washy reason...

$999 for a white macbook = R7,992 with todays exchange rate ... R11, 999 is still a ridiculous rip-off

They could argue that they paid the old exchange rates when they initially imported the stock.

The interesting part will be how they price the new stock considering how strong the rand has been. Rand strength plus the price drops from Apple should mean that the new line-up is priced considerably below the old one in SA. Seriously doubt it will actually happen though!

That $999 obviously doesnt include sales tax of any kind so you should remove VAT from the SA price to get a fairer comparison.

Random question, does anyone have any idea how long the old stock will still generally be available for? Based on past updates or anything.

And also add import taxes as well as shipping fees to the $999

For YOU yes. Not for Core. Core is an Apple Reseller which means they get Apple Macs at cheaper rates, they don't buy retail. Core pay VAT but that's passed onto the end buyer. Finally shipping is much cheaper for Core, they like all other businesses have long term contracts and get special rates.

I would bet that Core pays something like $800 maximum for that $999 laptop. It then gets shipped to SA in a mass shipment at probably something like $50 and then they mark up the remainder to equal the SA price + VAT.

Core is just taking advantage of the situation but the real people to blame here are not the opportunists, but APPLE. Yes APPLE is treating SA this way. Apple could easily allow other places to export to us and could force Core to sell at a certain price or allow alternative importers. Obviously they're too busy developing subsequent iPhone versions to care. Thank Apple USA for the super expensive Macs in SA and thank Mr turtle-neck Steve Jobs.
