Some NeoConnect and NeoFlex subscribers struggle with service instability. Neotel working to iron out problems.

Certain Neotel NeoConnect and NeoFlex subscribers started to experienced frequent disconnects and service instability over the last few days. This comes only weeks after similar problems were encountered by Neotel subscribers.

Neotel says that the preliminary tests on its network indicate a link to capacity utilization on the network. The company said that they are currently carrying out ‘various network parameter optimizations’ to address the problem.

Neotel has previously said that only a small portion of their customers are affected by these problems, typically those subscribers connecting to congested towers or tower sectors. According to Neotel it is again only a small group of their user base experiencing problems: “We have not noticed a significant increase in customer complaints regarding this problem,” Neotel said.

“Although, certain customers have experienced issues wherein data sessions indicate ‘connected’, while no through put is experienced. Every customer complaint is dealt with personally. We have directly engaged with customers who have reported these problems and have conducted tests at their specific locations.”

According to one telecoms and networking specialist the situation looks similar to the problems that Sentech had to face a few years ago with a degradation of its network performance as their subscriber base grew.

He said that Neotel would do well to assess what happened to Sentech regarding network usage and service deterioration. Neotel may be at the crossroads when it comes to resolving the issue, he added, and unless a long term solution is employed Neotel may be faced with the same challenges as Sentech.

Neotel however counter argue that their fibre based backhaul network, consistent CDMA network growth and tower upgrades in congested areas should ensure that they do not become a second Sentech.

Lies..Lies..Lies

@Neotel
How can you openly Lie to the public like this??? Whoever is doing your PR should be fired..Have they actually ever read these forums?
Shame on you...

You are becoming the next..SENTECH..IBURST....DSTV HDPVR...blablabla

If you complain about something, you have to give the company a chance to fix the problems. At least there is some response from them unlike some others I don't care to mention here.

This whole thing about Neotel becoming the next Sentech is a big joke. First I assume that Neotel is backhauling all our data on their fibre network not using microwave like sentech was.

Second Neotel is still investing in the network and it is clear that they are going to continue to invest in the network. Things are not going to be perfect at the start but if you didn't want these kind of problems then you should have waited for a year before signing up.

Despite a number of issues I am still happy with my decision to go with Neotel. Speeds are adequate and the service is generally available.

More importantly it is clear that Neotel is continually tweaking the system and sometimes that works in my favour and sometimes it doesn't.

I agree with pope24, Im happy with my decision to move to Neotel as well.

Its unfortunate that more noise is made by people when things go wrong, then when things are good. But that is the way it is. Despite a lot of complaints on this board (which Neotel-the rep- has responded to most of them), I'm guessing a majority of people are satisfied with the service.

I'm also happy with my experience with Neotel so far. I briefly had problems and they were helpful in ironing them out. I've had good speeds and ping times. At first I thought it might just be that I'm lucky with my area, but I recently moved to a different area in Joburg and still have good speeds.

They've also been keeping me up to date with e-mails detailing the problems they're experiencing and what they're trying to do about it. In all I've received more communication from Neotel than any other company I've dealt with.

I'm certainly happy. I wouldn't dream of moving back to HSDPA.

Valken, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Neotel is a joke and do nothing but lie.

Those that are happy with Neotel should be extremely grateful that they have a connection. Try having an upload and download speed of 0.01kbps and try and sort it out with Neotel for more than a month! Try doing internet banking only to have the website time out because of Neotel's pathetic speeds!

Neotel make dealing with Telkom a walk in the park!

Well I must admit I've had my issues and they have all been sorted. Speeds have indeed improved (until more Durbanites become aware of Neotel and clog up the towers). But on the overall Neotel is trying to address all hassles and given time I'm sure all will be attended too.

Just hang in there chaps :)

I've also had a few problems on Neotel but they've never lasted more than a day(*touch wood*). I've had a fairly good experience overall and I'm happy.

Neotel is doing their best, I believe to help sort out the issues.

Well, apart form the disconnect issues which I finally seem to have found a fix for (on my side at least), I am pretty happy with my uncapped Neotel connection. I don't see them failing like Sentech any time soon.

Now can we please get cheap fibre Neotel?

SHOCKING FOR SURE !

NEOTEL IS LYING. THEY ADMIT PROBLEMS. I CAN LIVE WITH THIS IF ONLY THEY WARNED YOU OR TOLD YOU FIRST WITHOUT ALL THE STRESS TRYING TO FIND OUT WHY EVERYTHING IS ****TY AND WORSE THAN IBURST AND ADSL. --- IT IS ALL CRAP! SO FRUSTRATING AND IRRATATING.

Would you like to throw a few more caps in there? Couldn't quite hear you;)
