So the other day I get a letter saying my bikes been recalled for safety, some research showed it was a quality issue with the bearings on the pistons.

The letter states "The work will be carried out free of charge and will take approximately 8 hours, but please make your motorcycle available for half a day". I suspect they referring to a calendar day and not work day, but anyway.

So I have it booked in, drop it off this morning, only to get a call about 2 hours or so later, no the service will take a month??? WTFF, did the calendar change at some point that suddenly 1 day and 1 month are the same thing? So I tell them I can only do that if they give me a loan, bike, so I get told I need to take that up with Honda SA.

First and last ****ing time I buy a Honda, as this is not the first time I get ****ed about by their service department.

Did you follow the recall procedure set in place? (if any)
When Honda did the second recall of Takata, my wifes Jazz was one of the affected.

The recall was however not handled by the dealer itself, but from some office in Durban. We nominated the dealership (Cpt) we wanted to take the car to and the parts was delivered to them on a booking basis.

Was the most painless procedure to experience and I was highly impressed.

Doubt that the motorbikes will be handled differently since its not a dealership expense.

Letter said to take it into nearest dealer at earliest convenience, that was it.

They gave a number to contact for more info and that guy was extremely confused as apparently that number was for the Airbag recall, he knew nothing about the motorbikes.

Dealer said they need to rebuild the engine and cannot order parts until after the engine has been stripped, and they will need to keep the bike for a month. Honda SA confirmed that the letter only states the service time and that it does not include any parts needing to be ordered. Yet it specifically states the service will take 8 hours and I need to make my bike available for half a day, apparently what it should of said is the service takes 8 hours, but you need to take a months leave from work because we need to keep your bike,a nd jammer van jou *** te hoor, maar ons gee jou nie n load nie.

All the best bro, I'll collect the bike if I was you and let them order the parts as per recall letter.

It sounds like they are more confused than you at this moment and are handling this as a warranty claim instead. (Needs to look first and then order the parts)

On the bright side, if this keeps up, you will sit with a brand spanking new engine in your CBR300! :D

I took it back, I said they not touching it without a loan bike for me, once they take the engine apart, it's in pieces till the new parts arrive.

CPT, although they also asked me to take it to tygerberg/valley rather as their mechanic has quit so there is nobody left capable of doing it.

Bummer - I replied on tapatalk where your location doesn't show. Honda East Rand is top top and would not fück you around like this.

Booked our NCX700 in about 2 weeks ago at the Tygervalley branch, we also got told during booking that the next available date is a month away.

They appear to be either very understaffed or just extremely busy, granted I think Honda only has 3 dealerships in the entire Cape Town

Previous services usually had to be booked a week in advance, not sure what changed since then.

Anyways, the called afterwards to rate their service........lets just say they got a good earful :D

If they have enough records to know that my bikes, of thousands is one of the bikes that was fitted with a potentially faulty bearing, why do they need to rip the engine apart before ordering parts, what inside my engine do they need to check in order to determine what parts to order, Honda SA should know exactly what parts will definitely be needed and what may possibly be needed, why not ship out extra parts to dealers specifically for this service, and if it is a known recall service, why does it take an entire month for parts to be ordered?

I see no reason why the engine needs to be stripped first nor why parts need a month for shipping in a known recall, totally different story if it is an isolated bike that was in an accident and a part broke that is not in stock, but world wide they are recalling these bikes, they should have made provisions for parts internationally with all dealers that will be handling repairs, it is completely unrealistic to expect people to just hand over their vehicles for an entire month, for an 8 hours service because they plan like Zuma.
